The convergence of Circular Economy principles and Industry 4.0 technologies represents a transformative opportunity for achieving industrial sustainability. This review synthesizes the existing literature on the intersection of Circular Economy and Industry 4.0, examining how digital technologies enable circular practices and contribute to environmental sustainability. The review identifies eight research clusters encompassing the linkages between Industry 4.0, Circular Economy, and environmental sustainability, including big data analytics for supply chain circularity, circular and sustainable additive manufacturing, urban sustainability, sustainable circular and digital remanufacturing, and blockchain and data integration for a sustainable Circular Economy. Findings indicate that Industry 4.0 technologies facilitate circular practices through enhanced traceability, waste identification, material reuse optimization, demand prediction, and resource efficiency improvements. However, challenges remain including the paradox of economic growth and technological innovation, integration barriers, and the need for interdisciplinary collaboration. This paper contributes to the literature by providing a comprehensive overview of the research landscape and identifying future research directions at the intersection of these critical domains.
